Loggerhead Shrike *
A fairly common resident of open lands. They are found on utility wires along roadways of the region. Shrikes are known to impale insects on the barbs of fence wires in order to feed on them later. Up to 10 a day may be seen. The LCBC high count of 223 was in 1973.
