Quail and Turkeys (3)
Wild Turkey *
An uncommon permanent resident of rural Polk County whose numbers have greatly
increased in recent years. Family groups of 12 to 15 can now be seen. The LWCBC
high number of 124 was in 2001.

Northern Bobwhite *
A fairly common permanent resident of open country that was formerly
more abundant. Where there were 4 or 5 coveys in a field we now find
one or none. On June 2, 2002 an adult male Masked Bobwhite which is
a subspecies of the our bobwhite, normally found in the American southwest,
showed up in a field in the Lakewood section of Winter Haven. It was probabily
an escape but one never knows about such things. The LWCBC high count of
131 was in 1995; LCBC 85 in 1975.

Common Peafowl *
An exotic which is located throughout the County. A female seen in Winter Haven
in July 2005, made its home behind my house and roosted there. She is still there in October of 2010.
