Hummingbirds (5 )

Ruby-throated Hummingbird *
An uncommon resident, scarce in the winter, found lightly scattered
throughout the region. Wintering hummers are difficult to identify as
to species. A well maintained hummingbird feeder is helpful in observing
these little guys. The LWCBC high count of 6 was in 1996; LCBC was 16 in 2010.

Rufous Hummingbird.
We have only a few records of this species, all from Lakeland. The first was March 1976
and the last two were reported in 2010. LCBC high count of 2 in 2010.

Black-chinned Hummingbird
One bird was positively identified and banded at a feeder in Lakeland in January 2005 and again in 2012. Certainly
this species is more common here but they hard to separate from wintering ruby-throated.
