Ruby-throated Hummingbird *

An uncommon resident, scarce in the winter, found lightly scattered throughout the region. Wintering hummers are difficult to identify as to species. A well maintained hummingbird feeder is helpful in observing these little guys. LWCBC high count of 6 in 1996; LCBC 6 in 2004/2005/2006 and 5 in 2000.

Calliope Hummingbird
One record in Lakeland in 1997.

Rufous Hummingbird.
Only a couple of records all from Lakeland. The first was March 1976 and the last was reported in 1997.

Black-chinned Hummingbird
One positively identified at a feeder in Lakeland in 2004 CBC. Certainly more common but hard to seperate from winter ruby-throated.
