Smooth-billed Ani *
Formerly found in small colonies throughout the region, the largest was near Eagle lake. All Anis disappeared
from Polk County after the freeze of 1989 and have not been seen here
since. I expect them to recolonize the area in a few years as they can
be found <100 miles to our south. The LCBC high count of 17 was in 1979.

Groove-billed Ani
A very rare find in central Florida. We have two records, one at Homeland in November 1984 and a second at Clear
Spring mine in February 1985. The grooves on the bill are not that obvious so identification is sometimes difficult.
