A common permanent resident found near water bodies all over the county.
In the fall, groups of several dozen can be seen high in the sky moving
elsewhere. Locally known as "snakebird". Christmas counts in
the hundreds are not uncommon. An incredible 800 birds were counted at the Hookers Prairie PPM in October of 2010. The LCBC high count of 891 was in 1983 which is a USA record.
